i’m trying to renew my damaged handicapped placard (po2147003). i tried doing it online last week, but no luck so far. does anyone know if it’s possible to fix this online or do i have to go in person?
i don’t think you can do it online if the placard is damaged. you’ll probably need to take it to the dmv.

ugh, that’s what i was afraid of. do i need to make an appointment first?
@Ray
yeah, most dmvs are appointment-only these days. check their website for scheduling—makes the process a lot quicker!
i had to renew my mom’s placard recently. we just took the damaged one to the dmv, and they replaced it on the spot.

good to know! did she need any paperwork or just the old placard?
@Ray
just the old one and her id. no extra forms or anything. it was pretty simple!
if your state dmv lets you renew online, it usually only works for undamaged placards. damaged ones need to be done in person.

makes sense. i guess damaged ones need extra verification or something?
@Ray
exactly. they need to make sure it’s legit before issuing a new one. saves them from fraud, i guess.
call your local dmv before you go—some offices might handle it differently or have specific hours for placard renewals.

good idea, i’ll give them a ring. hopefully, it’s not a huge hassle.
it’s annoying, but most renewals for damaged placards can only be done in person. bring id and the old placard, and you’ll be good.
