Anyone dealt with a speeding ticket in Gearhart... advice?

I got a speeding ticket in Gearhart, Oregon. The speed limit dropped from 50 to 45 to 40 mph within less than a mile. I pled not guilty at my first hearing, but the officer was there, so I’m not sure how strong my case is. I have no prior violations, and I really don’t want my insurance to go up. My court date is November 4. Any tips or advice?

That stretch of road sounds tricky. Did you try gathering evidence, like photos of the speed limit signs?

No, I didn’t take photos. I was just trying to focus on driving safely at the time.

You might want to go back and document it. Judges look at stuff like how visible the signs are.

What about arguing it was a speed trap? Seems unfair to have such quick drops in the limit.

I was thinking about that, but not sure how to make the case without evidence.

Speed trap defenses usually hinge on signage visibility and timing. A photo or video of the stretch would help.

If the officer’s there, they’re probably ready to testify. You might need a lawyer for this.

Yeah, I’ve tried finding a traffic lawyer in the area, but no luck yet.

Could you look into a deferred judgment? Sometimes they let you take a class to avoid the ticket on your record.

What’s your defense? Like, were you distracted or something? Judges might ask.

I was trying to safely pass an erratic driver. They sped up, so I had to as well.

Makes sense, but without proof, that might be tough to argue. Any witnesses or dashcam footage?

Why didn’t you explain all this to the officer when they pulled you over?

Honestly, I was nervous and just blurted out something random about chasing the sunset.

Lol, I get it. Traffic stops can be stressful. You could explain that to the judge—might help.
