So, I’m dealing with a dental office that keeps giving me issues. I paid over $5,700 upfront for dental work, but never got the work done because I was dealing with health problems. I’ve been constantly harassed by the office for a $500 balance I don’t even owe. After going back and forth with the insurance, they said the dentist owes me $5,100, but the dentist added a $780 charge for materials and sit time that was already supposedly deducted. They also said they have to refund my credit card even though it’s paid off. I’m trying to figure out my options… any ideas on what to do next? Any advice would be appreciated!
As for the materials for the impressions, I think you should be able to get them since you paid for them. You’ve definitely got the right to ask for them, so don’t let them give you the runaround.
@EdwardGenesis
Thanks for that! I’ll look into it. It’s been so stressful trying to get a straight answer from anyone.
To answer your second question, I think they have to refund the credit card because it’s a state law in California about how refunds work with credit cards, even if there’s a zero balance. It’s a bit of a weird rule, but that’s how it works, unfortunately.
@Darby
Oh, wow, I had no idea! That makes sense now. Thanks for clearing that up!
For the $700 charge for materials, I’d say it sounds pretty steep. You might want to ask other dentists what they charge for impressions. Could be that they’re charging more than usual.

I’ll definitely check around. $700 is a lot, especially when I didn’t even get the work done.
I don’t think there’s any real control over sit time charges, but you can definitely ask the dentist for a breakdown of what the charge is for. It might be more transparent that way.

I’ll try that. At this point, I just want some answers. Hopefully, they’ll be more upfront about it.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. I paid for it, so it should be mine. I’ll keep pushing for it.
@Valen
Good idea! I’ll try making a formal request. I really need to know what’s been said between them.
