Anyone else dealing with car insurance issues after a wreck?

I wrecked my car and made a claim with my insurance, but they told me I only have liability when I thought I had full coverage. I’m financing the car, so I thought full coverage was a requirement. I even told the insurance company when I signed up that I was making payments on it. They’re saying I didn’t verify the documents though. I called Gap insurance for help, but they denied the claim too since my repair cost is $15,000, and they said the car’s worth $23,000. They said the repair cost needs to be more than the car’s value. So now I’m stuck… anyone know what I should do next?

That sounds like a nightmare! I had a similar issue before. If you have formal denial letters, maybe you can appeal both decisions? It’s worth asking for more details about how they valued your car too.

@Tenny
I’m definitely going to appeal. I just feel like I’m getting the runaround. Do you know how to get more details on their car valuation?

Yeah, I’d ask for a detailed breakdown of their car value estimate. Sometimes they don’t factor in market price or condition correctly. You can also look up comparable car prices in your area to back up your claim.

Ugh, this sounds frustrating. Definitely appeal, and you might want to reach out to the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation. They can sometimes help if the insurance companies aren’t being fair.

I didn’t think about that! I’ll check out the Division of Financial Regulation and see what they can do. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve had some luck with a situation like this by submitting a ton of evidence about my vehicle’s condition and value. If you can, try to get an independent appraisal for your car’s worth.

I’ll look into that. I didn’t even consider getting an appraisal. Seems like it could really help with the dispute!

What a mess. I’ve heard that insurance companies don’t always follow through on their part, even when it’s clearly their mistake. Keep pushing, and don’t let them get away with it!

Definitely! I’m trying to stay on top of it, but it’s so overwhelming. At least I’m not alone in this!

My gap insurance had similar issues, but once I pointed out the discrepancy in the car’s value, they re-evaluated. Just stay persistent!

That gives me hope! I’ll keep pushing and challenge their valuation. Thanks for the advice!
