I’m looking for some info on dividing up our house during a divorce. I don’t want to move out, but I also don’t want to just force him to leave, you know? Both our names are on the deed, but he got a new mortgage on his own. Anyone gone through this?
I went through something similar. If your name’s on the deed but not the mortgage, you might need to get some legal advice to see how to split it up.

That’s what I was thinking… I just didn’t know if I had any options to pay him off without a ton of hassle.

You could check with a lawyer first, they might have some ideas on this that don’t involve court.
If you’ve both been on the deed for years, there’s definitely a way to split it! It might depend on your state laws, though. Have you checked those out?

Not yet, I just wanted to get some general info first before diving into specifics.

Yeah, totally get that. You might want to look into what’s called ‘equitable distribution’ – that’s how most states divide assets.
If he got a new mortgage without you, can you still find out how much is owed?

I was wondering that! I don’t think he’d tell me the truth if I asked.

If the statements are mailed, you might find out that way. Or worst case, you’ll get proof through the divorce process.
Anyone else dealing with debt on top of the house thing? I co-signed a student loan for my ex and now I’m on the hook for all of it!

Oh man, yes! I co-signed for one too and now it’s way higher than I thought. Trying to figure out if there’s any way to get out of it.

Yikes, I think to get your name off, you’d need to talk to the lender directly. Co-signing stuff makes it really hard to separate from the debt.
Best of luck! This process can be tough but stay strong, you’ve got this!

Thanks, really appreciate it! Just taking it one step at a time.
