Anyone else dealing with late special Ed bus pickups?

My son’s in special education and takes the special ed bus, but it’s always picking him up late from our house. This is making him late to school, which leads to absences and tardies. The school has already sent warning notices… anyone know what I can do about this?

That’s so frustrating! Have you tried reaching out to the bus services directly?

Yeah, but they just keep giving us excuses. I’ve even sent certified letters to the school and bus services. Still waiting for a response.

Certified letters are a good idea. Hopefully, they’ll take it seriously now!

Did you know you could request an IEP meeting? You could bring up the bus issues directly with the team.

I hadn’t thought of that! I’ll definitely consider it if this keeps up. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, the IEP team can make changes if transportation is affecting his education. It’s worth a try.

Have you checked into filing a complaint with the Texas Education Agency? They could investigate if it’s a serious issue.

No, I didn’t know that was an option! I’ll keep that in mind as a backup plan. Thanks!

Yes, sometimes the state agency can help if the school isn’t doing enough to fix things.

IDEA has provisions for situations like this. Schools are required to provide appropriate transport as part of FAPE, right?

Exactly! That’s why this is so frustrating. It feels like they’re not meeting his needs here.

Yep, if it’s impacting his attendance and education, they should be addressing it.

Keeping those records of absence notices and letters is smart. If you need to escalate, you’ll have solid proof.

Thanks! I’m making sure to document everything just in case.

Good plan. Schools tend to respond faster when they know you’re keeping track.
