So, I’m dealing with this crazy situation. A girl just messaged me today saying she wants 500 or she’s going to ruin my life. IDK what to do… anyone else had this happen? What can I even do about it?
That sounds really intense. I haven’t been through that personally, but I think you should report it to the police. Have you contacted anyone about it yet?

Yeah, I haven’t yet. Was hoping to find out if anyone knew how to handle this without involving the authorities right away… any advice?
@Tyson
I think you should definitely tell someone, even if you don’t go to the police yet. Maybe start with a lawyer to know your rights? Just to get advice before taking any big steps.
I’ve read about stuff like this. You might want to try and get the conversation saved, like screenshots. A lawyer could help you figure out the next steps to protect yourself.

Gotcha, I’ll do that. Didn’t think about saving everything. Any specific advice on what to keep track of?
@Tyson
Just make sure you save all messages, photos, or any threats. Basically anything that could help prove what’s going on. Also, don’t send money, that’s what they want.
Isn’t this like extortion? You could reach out to a criminal lawyer online. They can help you with these situations, and you don’t have to meet face-to-face if you’re worried.

Yeah, I was thinking of an online lawyer chat too. Just wasn’t sure how it works. You’ve used one before?
@Tyson
I have! It’s pretty straightforward. You just talk with them through chat, and they give you advice on what to do next. It’s kinda like having your own lawyer right there.
If it helps, I had a similar situation once and a lawyer was super helpful. They told me to block the person and keep all the evidence, then figure out the legal steps from there.

That’s comforting, thanks! Blocking them is definitely a good idea. Did the lawyer tell you how long these kinds of things usually take to resolve?
@Tyson
It depends, but if you’ve got all the evidence, things can move pretty fast. It could take a few weeks, though, just depending on what happens.
It’s important to stay calm. Online blackmail can be super stressful, but getting legal advice is key. There are free consultations available too.

I’ll check for some free consultations. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it!
