Hey all, my husband is trying to change his address and direct deposit with DFAS. We tried doing it ourselves, but he couldn’t answer all their questions after a stroke. They told him he needs a ‘trusted agent’ at Hill AFB to help with the updates. Do we need an appointment? And does anyone know what paperwork we should bring? Thanks for any advice!
I went through something similar with my dad. Yeah, you might need an appointment. Calling ahead could save you a lot of hassle.

Good idea! Do you remember which office I should call at Hill?

I’d call the retiree services office or finance office. They usually handle these kinds of updates.
Make sure to bring all the ID documents they ask for. We needed my dad’s DD 214, military ID, and a driver’s license when we went.

Thanks! We’ve got those plus the new and old banking info, so hopefully that’s enough.

You should be good then! I’d just double-check with them on the phone about any extra forms.
Are you considering getting a Power of Attorney (POA)? It can make things easier if he has trouble answering questions.

That’s a good point… we don’t have one. Not sure how he’d feel about it, though.

Understandable. But it can save a lot of time if he ever needs help managing his benefits.
DFAS can be tricky to navigate… took me forever to change my info. Just be prepared for some back-and-forth, lol.

Yikes, good to know! I’ll go in ready for that, haha.
Hey, FYI, the trusted agent thing means someone at the base can verify his ID and help with forms. But yeah, calling ahead helps.

Ahh, thanks for explaining that! Makes sense now.
