Anyone know how to change the bank for Social Security deposits?

I recently set up a new bank account and need to switch where my Social Security deposits go. Anyone know the best way to do this online or if calling is better? Trying to avoid any delays.

Yeah, you can update it online. Just log into your ‘my Social Security’ account on ssa.gov. It’s pretty simple.

What’s ‘my Social Security’? Is that a site or something?

Yep, it’s the official Social Security site. You make an account there to manage your info.

If you prefer talking to a person, you can also call them. They’ll do the update over the phone.

Is calling quicker than online? Or does it take the same time?

Not sure if it’s faster, but it can be easier if you’re not into the online stuff. Wait times can vary though.

You could also visit your local Social Security office, but you might want to call first to check hours.

Oh cool, I didn’t realize you could go in person too. Is it faster that way?

@Laken
Depends on your local office, but sometimes it’s faster than waiting on the phone!

Online is probably easiest if you’re comfortable with it. Less waiting, plus you can do it anytime.

Good point, I’ll try online first and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice!

I did mine online, took just a few minutes! Make sure you have your new account info handy.

Great tip! I’ll have my info ready. Thanks for the heads-up.
