Anyone know how to get in touch with a military family member for estate stuff?

My child is in the Army and I think they’re stationed overseas. Their grandparents passed away and left them an inheritance plus some savings bonds. I’m the executor of the estate, but I’m having trouble contacting my child. We’re estranged, and I need to know if they want the inheritance or not. Also, I need them to sign a court document saying what they want. I don’t have any contact info for them right now. Anyone know how I can reach out, especially since they’re in the military?

That sounds like a really tough situation. Have you tried asking other family members or friends to help get in touch with them? Even if you’re estranged, sometimes someone else might have a way to reach them.

Wow, that’s a tough spot. I’ve heard you can contact military legal services to help find someone stationed overseas. Maybe they can get in touch with your child about the estate stuff?

If your child is stationed in Italy, it might be worth calling the base or contacting the legal office there. They usually have services to help with situations like this.

Another option might be to reach out to a military lawyer. They can help with contacting your child and figuring out how to proceed with the inheritance stuff.

Sorry you’re going through this. I agree with others that the military legal office could help. You might also want to check with a probate lawyer if you’re stuck. They might have experience with these situations.
