Anyone know how to handle a project invoice when the builder is in hospice?

I’m in a bit of a tough situation. I’ve got a project where the vendor finished their work, but the installation isn’t done yet. The builder who hired them is now in hospice, and his family isn’t sharing any contact info for the vendor or even the builder’s sister, who is apparently handling things now. I’ve been told the installation is on hold until some VAT issues are cleared, but I’m not sure how to move forward. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? I really just need to get in touch with the right people to settle the invoice. Any advice on how to enforce payment or make progress would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Wow, that sounds like a tricky situation. I’d recommend trying to get in touch with any professional associations for builders or even local building regulators. Maybe they can help you track down the vendor or at least give you some guidance on your options.

Ugh, that’s a lot to handle. Do you have any paperwork or contracts with the builder? You might be able to use that to get the ball rolling and push for payment, especially if there are clear terms laid out.

I had something similar happen once with a contractor. What helped me was tracking down the vendor through social media. It’s not always reliable, but you never know!

I had a similar issue where I was stuck dealing with family members who wouldn’t share info. In my case, I ended up hiring a solicitor to send a letter. It wasn’t too expensive, and it really helped to move things along.

Has anyone mentioned the VAT issue to you? It could be worth following up directly with the tax office to see if that’s actually holding things up. Sometimes they’ll provide info on how to move forward with payments.
