Can a pregnant woman be slandered and suspended from work?

Hey everyone, I’m going through a tough time at work right now. I’m pregnant and my coworkers are saying some pretty awful things about me. They’re even demanding that I get fired. Is this even legal? Can I be slandered like this at work, and is it okay for them to suspend me and stop paying me? IDK what to do…

That’s awful, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. Slander is a form of defamation, and it can be a serious issue. It’s basically when someone makes false statements that harm your reputation, and you can take action if it’s happening to you.

Yeah, from what I know, slander can be a big deal. It’s basically when someone says something that isn’t true, and it harms your reputation. It sounds like you could have a case, but you might need to speak to a lawyer who specializes in employment law.

I know that defamation can be really damaging, but can you do anything about being suspended or having your pay stopped? I thought employers needed a good reason to suspend you.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I think slander can sometimes be tricky to prove unless it’s really clear. But I believe if they’re saying something about you that’s harmful to your job or reputation, you might have a case.

It sounds like a tough situation. As others mentioned, slander is when false things are said to harm your reputation. If they’re suspending you without cause, you may want to look into workplace protection laws. Some states protect pregnant workers from discrimination, so definitely look into that!
