Can a school suspend you without clear reasons?

So, my school just suspended me, but they haven’t explained clearly what I did wrong. They only said I ‘harassed a district employee,’ but I honestly have no idea what that means. All I did was ask her why she reported me for some ‘outburst’—and at first, she even denied reporting me! Later, she refused to explain what I did, then claimed I was aggressive and followed her? Now I’m suspended based on her words alone. Is this even lawful? What should I do next?

That sounds super frustrating. Schools are supposed to give you some kind of explanation. Did they even offer you a hearing or anything?

Nope, nothing about a hearing. They just sent me an email saying I’m suspended. IDK how to even start appealing.

You should check your school’s code of conduct. They might have info on requesting a formal hearing.

What’s a provost’s office? Someone mentioned that in a similar situation I read about.

It’s usually the office that handles student discipline and appeals. They should help you figure out the next steps.

Yeah, basically the provost’s office oversees stuff like this. You might need to write to them formally to ask for a review.

Honestly, this sounds like a lack of due process. Schools need to at least tell you what rule you broke.

Right? All they said was ‘harassment,’ but nothing about what exactly I did or when.

Sounds vague AF. Maybe try emailing them back and asking for more details?

Did you actually follow or confront this person aggressively? Schools take that kind of thing seriously, even if it wasn’t your intention.

No, I just asked her questions! I wasn’t aggressive at all, but she reported me anyway.

Some people are just extra sensitive. Maybe bring in someone to mediate next time if it gets sorted out.

Definitely appeal this. If they’re suspending you without solid proof or explanation, you’ve got a case.

Thanks, I’ll try that. Just don’t know where to even start with writing the appeal.

Start by asking for a formal hearing. Maybe include details about how you weren’t given enough info about the accusations.
