Can I be kept on restriction until my ETS date?

I’m on extra duty and just got my separation date for Oct 9. My extra duty goes past that date, and I have some things I need to take care of off-post. But every time I try to leave, the gate scan flags me, and I get detained. Can I be kept on restriction until my ETS date if I already have hard orders? Anyone else dealt with this?

Yeah, they can keep you on restriction if it’s part of your Article 15 punishment under UCMJ. Annoying, I know.

That’s what I figured. Any idea how to get off-post for stuff like clearing loose ends?

You’d need to request a modification to your restriction. Like, route it up the chain of command with a good reason.

What does UCMJ mean? Just curious.

Oh, sorry! It’s the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Basically the rules you’re punished under in the military.

I had a similar issue. I requested an open door with my battalion commander, and they made an exception for me.

They weren’t thrilled, but my reasons were solid. I just stayed calm and respectful.

It’s tied to your restriction. When they scan your ID, it alerts security if you’re not allowed off-post.
