My NC driver’s license was revoked over 28 years ago, and I’ve had no infractions since. I haven’t lived in NC for over 30 years. Is there any chance I can get my license reinstated now? I tried years ago and was laughed at. I live in Alabama now. Anyone been through something similar?
You might be able to get a new license in Alabama. They have a process for transferring your out-of-state license, even if it’s revoked. Just make sure to check with the NC DMV to see if there are any holds on your record.
@Hadi
Oh, I didn’t think about checking with NC DMV first. Thanks for the tip!
I had a similar situation! In Alabama, you just need to prove your identity, Social Security number, and residency. If NC doesn’t have any holds on your record, you should be good to go. I was able to get my license sorted after years too!
@Tatum
That’s encouraging to hear! I’ll definitely check everything out. Thanks for the info!
Yeah, in Alabama, they require you to transfer your license within 30 days of moving there. If you’ve lived there over 30 years, they might just issue you a new license. Just don’t forget to pay the fees—about $36.25, plus a $5 transfer fee.
@Zola
Good to know! I wasn’t sure about the fees, so thanks for that heads up. I’ll make sure to bring everything.
You’ll probably need to visit the local DPS in Alabama with all the required documents: proof of identity, Social Security number, and residency. The whole process is pretty simple once you have everything ready!
@Tennyson
Great, sounds like I’ve got it covered then. I’ll gather all my docs. Thanks again!
Just FYI, even though your NC license was revoked, Alabama may still let you apply for a new one if there aren’t any outstanding issues with your record. Worth checking with the DMV for sure!

I’ll definitely reach out to them. Hoping there’s nothing blocking me! Thanks for the advice!
