I’m currently getting 40% disability, but I need to know if I can increase it to cover my household bills. Anyone know if that’s possible?
If you’re on SSDI or SSI, the amount is usually fixed. You might get cost-of-living increases, but that’s about it. Have you looked into other assistance programs?

I didn’t realize it’s fixed. Thanks for the info! Any suggestions on other programs?
@Rin
You could check local assistance programs, maybe something through your state. Some places have extra help for things like rent or utilities.

Good idea, I’ll look into that. Appreciate the help!
If your disability worsens, you can try applying for an increase. But you’d need medical proof that your condition has gotten worse since your original approval.

I had open heart surgery a while back, not sure if that counts. Might be worth looking into though.
FYI, increasing benefits isn’t easy. You’ll probably need to reapply or appeal if you think you deserve more.

Yeah, sounds like it might be a hassle, but worth a shot. Thanks for the heads-up!
Also, check if there are any non-profits in your area that help people on disability with financial planning. Some of them can help stretch your benefits further.

Didn’t think about that. I’ll definitely look for some local help. Thanks!
If you’re struggling, maybe see if you can talk to a lawyer who deals with disability claims. They can sometimes help with appeals for increases.

That’s a good idea. I might reach out to one if things don’t improve. Thanks!
