Can I join the Navy if I have HIV and only one testicle... anyone know?

Hey guys, so I’m HIV undetectable positive and I’ve only got one testicle. I was just reading something new about it from August, and it said I could join the Navy. Anyone know if this is true? Or if there’s any special process I need to go through? I’m 25 and honestly, I’m just trying to get some clarity on this before reaching out to a recruiter.

I think there’s been a recent change in how they handle HIV for military recruitment. They were letting people with undetectable HIV enlist recently, but I’m not sure about the one testicle part. Maybe you should contact a recruiter to get the official scoop.

@Fife
Yeah, I’m planning to talk to a recruiter. Just wanted to see if anyone else had info on this before I reach out.

I saw something similar too! I think they changed their rules, but I don’t know about specific medical conditions like yours. Definitely talk to a recruiter to see what they say.

Right, I’ll be calling them soon. Just wanted to get a sense of what might happen if I do.

I’ve read about people with HIV being allowed to enlist, but if you have a medical condition, even something like a missing testicle, they might still need to review it to make sure it won’t affect your duties.

@Arlen
Yeah, that makes sense. I’m just trying to make sure I have all the info before I start the process.

FYI, if you’re HIV undetectable, they might be more lenient with that, but other conditions like missing organs could be a bit more tricky. Check with a recruiter for specifics.

I didn’t even think about how the missing testicle could play a role. I’ll definitely get all the details when I talk to them.

Don’t let medical conditions discourage you. A lot of things can be worked around depending on your overall health. Best to talk to a recruiter directly. Hope it works out for you!

Thanks! I’m hoping for the best. Just want to know everything before making the leap.
