Can I put a lien on his inheritance... anyone know?

So, X never paid the court-ordered child support for our kids who are grown now. I just got a statement saying he owes $38,000. He’s never worked above the table since. I’m in Oregon and was wondering if I can put a lien on any inheritance he might get. Any thoughts?

You might be able to put a lien on his inheritance, but I’d definitely consult with a lawyer about that! They can give you the best advice.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting legal advice. Just wanted a heads up on what’s possible.

In Oregon, if you have a judgment for child support, you can usually pursue a lien on property, including inheritance. It’s worth looking into!

What’s a judgment? I’ve heard that term but not really sure what it means.

@Avery
A judgment is basically a court decision that confirms what someone owes. In this case, it’s the child support amount.

I think you can file a lien if you have a court order. Just make sure to gather all your documents first!

Thanks! I’ll definitely make sure I have everything ready.

It might take some time to process, but it’s definitely doable. Just keep pushing for your rights!

Good to know… I’ll stay on top of it.

What if he doesn’t have any property? Can you still put a lien on future inheritance?

Yeah, I think you can put a lien on future interests. Just check with a lawyer to confirm!
