Hey everyone! So, I’m in the United States Air Force, and I’m planning to start an online business where I’ll sell and promote blue lotus. Here’s the thing—blue lotus is prohibited for service members to use. Does anyone know if it’s an issue if I’m just selling and promoting it online? I’ll be running the business from Arkansas but there’s no physical location since it’s all online. I haven’t registered an LLC yet either. Any advice?
I think it might depend on how your chain of command views it. Have you checked the Air Force policy on off-duty employment?

Not yet, but someone shared a document with me about off-duty employment. I should probably dig into that. Thanks!

Yeah, definitely check that! Sometimes the rules are stricter than they seem, especially if there’s any conflict with military standards.
Wait, what’s blue lotus? Is it like a supplement or something?

It’s a plant often used for relaxation or mild effects, but service members can’t use it at all.

Got it, thanks! Makes sense why it could be tricky to sell then.
Do you know if selling it might be seen as promoting something against military policy? That could be a gray area.

That’s what I’m worried about. I mean, I’m not using it, just selling it. Hoping that makes a difference.

Maybe consult a lawyer who specializes in military law? They’d know how to navigate this.
If it’s online-only and you’re not using it, you might be fine, but you’ll want to register as an LLC to protect yourself.

Good point, I haven’t set that up yet. Need to get on it.

Totally agree with VWX—LLC is crucial for liability. Plus, it shows you’re taking the business seriously.
Arkansas is pretty relaxed about online businesses, but you should check state laws too. Some places regulate how certain products are marketed.

That’s a good call. I’ll look into state laws too. Thanks!

State laws are often overlooked but super important, especially if your product crosses state lines.
