So, my vehicle was towed by a private tow company, AJH Management, even though I have a parking pass and handicap placard. They didn’t post any signs about no parking, and I’ve been running around to different locations trying to find my car. I feel like I’m being totally screwed here. Can I sue them for towing my car without following the proper procedure? Anyone been in a similar situation?
Ugh, that sounds really frustrating. Yeah, based on what you’re saying, it sounds like they broke some rules. You should be able to sue them in small claims court for sure.

Did they even give you a receipt or info on how to get your car back? That’s usually a sign of being shady.
@Dell
They didn’t give me anything like that either. Sounds like they violated the law big time. Good luck with your case!

I’d definitely check the laws in your state. In NJ, I believe they need to have clear signs and give you the right info about how to get your car back. If they didn’t do that, you have a pretty strong case.
@Joss
Yeah, I didn’t see any signs at all, and my building was sending me to multiple places. Super frustrating. I’m going to look into it more.
If you’re planning to sue, just make sure you have everything documented. Any photos of the area and any receipts or records you can find will help a lot in court.

This is good advice. You might also want to report them to the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs while you’re at it. That way, they’ll have a record of the complaint.
Wow, that sounds like a nightmare. Honestly, small claims might be the easiest route, especially if they broke the law by not posting signs. Couldn’t hurt to try it out.

Yeah, I’m thinking small claims is my next step. I don’t want to let them get away with this. Thanks for the advice!
If you’re unsure, you might want to call a lawyer for a free consultation. A lot of lawyers will give you a bit of advice without charging, especially if it’s a small claims case.

I’ve been there before. It’s super annoying. Make sure you get a copy of the law, because that’s what’s gonna help you in court if it comes down to it.
Good point! I’m definitely going to gather all the info I can. Thanks!
