My car was totaled and I’m wondering if I can transfer my tag to a new car I buy? I’m in FL. I’m still looking and the current reg is good until 02/12/2026.
Sorry to hear about your car! Yeah, you can transfer your tag to a new car in FL. It’s pretty straightforward. Just make sure your registration is still active.

That’s good to know. Do you need to buy the new car before transferring the tag, or can you do it anytime?
@Laken
You can transfer the tag as long as your current registration is still good, like yours is. No need to rush getting the car, just transfer the tag once you’ve bought it.
What about insurance? Is it okay to cancel it until I get a new car?

Yeah, it’s fine to cancel your insurance until you get the new car. Just make sure you have it before you hit the road again.

Just don’t forget, you need insurance to drive on public streets. But no worries, cancelling it while you’re car shopping is perfectly okay.
What happens if I don’t have insurance while I wait for the new car? Will they suspend my license?

Nope, they won’t suspend your license. You just can’t drive without insurance. But as long as you’re not on the road, you’re fine.
I got a $43 charge on my credit card. Is that normal?

That’s from JustAnswer, right? I think that’s their fee for the service. You should double-check your billing info on the site.

Yeah, JustAnswer does charge, but not the person you’re chatting with. I’m sure it’s a service fee. I wouldn’t worry about it.
So I don’t need to worry about my license while waiting for a new car? That’s a relief.

Yep, no worries about your license as long as you’re not driving without insurance. Just make sure you get it sorted once you buy the car.
