Can I write a letter to the judge directly... anyone know?

Aloha, I had a hearing back in 2019 and I was wondering if it’s possible to write a letter directly to the judge involved? I’m not sure if this is allowed or how to go about doing it. Anyone know the process? Mahalo!

I’ve looked into this before. You can’t just write a letter directly to the judge, it’s considered unlawful communication. But you can contact the judge’s clerk to ask about it. Just make sure to notify the other party too if you send anything!

Wait, so you can’t just send a letter? That’s weird. I thought you could do that if it was important.

From what I know, there aren’t forms specifically for writing a letter to the judge. If you need to get something in front of the judge, you might need to file a motion instead. Just a heads-up!

Ohh, so no forms for a letter? Got it! I was wondering if there were any official ones or something. Thanks for clarifying!

You can definitely ask the clerk about it, but make sure to send whatever you send to the other party too. That’s the rule. I found that out the hard way.

I think you can do it, but yeah, it has to be fair. Maybe check if you actually need to file something instead of just sending a letter. It could save time.

Aloha! I had a similar issue a while ago. Definitely make sure you send the same letter to the other party if you do it. It’s all about keeping things equal between both sides.
