Can military personnel actually scam people?

I’ve been wondering… is it even possible for someone who’s actually in the military to run scams? Like, I’ve heard about fake military scammers, but can someone in the actual military pull something like that off? Curious what you all think.

It’s possible, but super unlikely. Most wouldn’t risk their career over a scam. They’d lose everything!

Yeah, but I guess it depends on the person. If someone’s desperate or shady, they might try it.

Exactly. It’s rare though. Way more fake military scams than real ones, for sure.

If you’re suspicious, you can check their info. Military service records are public! Use the DMDC database.

Wait, what’s DMDC? Never heard of that.

Oh, my bad! DMDC is a site to check military records. Here’s the link: SCRA

If they’re asking for money to go on leave, it’s definitely fake. No legit military member would do that.

True! The US Embassy even warns about this. No fees for leave or anything like that.

Yep, here’s what they say: family or friends don’t need to pay for leave. If someone asks, it’s a scam.

Even if they show an ID, it could be fake. Social media isn’t always proof either.

Right? It’s easy to fake IDs or videos these days. Gotta be careful.

If they seem legit but you’re still unsure, try cross-checking their ID with other records.

Honestly, most military scams come from people pretending to be in the military, not actual members.

Yeah, I’ve read it’s like 1000 fake scammers for every real one, or something like that.

Makes sense. The real ones wouldn’t risk getting caught. Too much to lose.
