Can my employer ask for medical records in Texas?

I was wondering, can an employer in Texas request your medical records without your permission? I have this weird feeling that my doctors are treating me differently ever since my employer might’ve found out about my medical stuff. Anyone know what’s up with that?

Nah, they can’t access your medical records without permission. That’s like a big no-go legally.

For real? I was getting worried because I got an email saying they could reach out to medical providers for info. But when I asked around, nobody else got it.

@Pippin
Yeah, that email sounds sketchy, lol. If none of your coworkers got it, it probably doesn’t count.

@Pippin
Exactly, if you don’t have a copy of that email, they can’t just randomly access your records.

Even if they made a policy, they still can’t just look at your medical records without you signing something. It’s against the law.

Oh, gotcha. So, even if it’s in some policy, they still need my signature?

@Pippin
Yep, they need you to agree to it first. No signature, no access.

That’s messed up if they’re trying to access your medical stuff without you knowing.

I know, right? It’s like, why would they even need that info?

Exactly! Unless it’s work-related, they have no reason to know.

FYI, even if they tried, your medical provider wouldn’t release info without your consent. It’s protected.

Good to know, thanks for that. I feel a little better now.

IDK why employers would even try to get into that. It’s illegal without your say.

Seriously, I thought the same. Just needed to confirm what’s legal.

Yep, always check. But yeah, sounds like they’re pushing boundaries there.
