So, I’m in Ontario, and my landlord’s L1 application says I didn’t pay a rent deposit… but I actually did. He knew about this mistake since April but didn’t fix it. Does anyone know if this is a big enough deal for it to get thrown out?
Whoa, that’s rough! Have you tried talking to the LTB about it?

Not yet, but I’m planning to bring it up at the hearing. I just hope it makes a difference!

Definitely bring proof you paid that deposit. It might help get the case dismissed if they take it seriously.
Sounds like a big error on their end. If the LTB sees it as misleading info, it could hurt his case.

That’s what I’m hoping! It’s not a small detail, you know?

Exactly. If the landlord didn’t fix it even after knowing, it kinda looks bad.
Just curious, what’s an L1 application?

Oh, it’s the form landlords use in Ontario to apply for an eviction if tenants haven’t paid rent.

Thanks! Makes more sense now.
I’d definitely argue that not correcting it shows negligence. The LTB might consider that.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Like, if it was just a small mistake, fine, but this is a whole deposit.
Honestly, if he’s messing up on the form, I’d question how he’s managing everything else.

Haha, you’re not wrong. This isn’t the first issue with him, sadly.

Maybe he should be more careful with paperwork if he wants to keep his tenants!
