I’m wondering if a towing company can tow my car from the front yard, right in front of my garage? They did it recently and I’m not sure if that’s allowed. Can they do that?
If it’s a repossession, then yeah, they probably can. If this happened in California, they can tow from your driveway or in front of your home, as long as it’s accessible. They just can’t go into your garage or any secured area.
@Zenith
Oh wow, I didn’t know that. So if I had parked it in the garage, they couldn’t touch it?
@Zenith
Yep, exactly. But as long as it’s outside and visible, they’re good to go. Makes sense, right?
Yeah, I’ve heard repossession companies can tow from driveways and even the street. But like you said, they can’t get into the garage unless you leave the door open or something.

Thanks for confirming! That’s kinda wild, but I guess it’s all legal. I’ll have to be more careful in the future.
It really depends on where you are. If this was California, then yeah, they could do it, but other states might have different rules.

True, every state has different laws. So, if you’re not in California, it might be worth checking your local rules.
Just FYI, if you ever want to prevent this, try parking inside the garage or in a spot where the tow truck can’t easily reach it. At least that way, they can’t tow it without a struggle.

Lol, noted! I’ll keep that in mind. Definitely don’t want to deal with this again.
This is a bit of a bummer if it happened to you, but yeah, they can tow from the front yard, as long as it’s visible from the street. Can’t do much if they get to it before you can move it.

Yeah, it was definitely a surprise. Thanks for the info though, it helps to understand what happened!
