Cop says I don’t have a registration sticker... but I wasn’t even near him?

So I got pulled over by a cop who said he saw I didn’t have a registration sticker on my window. But here’s the thing—he was like 30-40 feet behind me on the highway. I don’t even know how he could’ve seen that from that far away. Anyway, I ended up with 3 citations: no license, no registration, and no proof of insurance. What options do I have here? Can cops just check your license from a distance like that?

Yeah, this sounds a bit weird. How could he see that from behind you? I’d think that’s a stretch.

In Texas, they can stop you if they suspect a violation, even if they can’t see everything. It’s called ‘reasonable suspicion.’ So, yeah, technically, he could pull you over for not having the sticker.

I’ve been through something similar. The best thing is to just show up to court with proof you’re getting things fixed, like updated registration or proof of insurance. They’re more likely to cut you some slack.

If you can’t make it to court today, it’s worth calling the court to ask about rescheduling. Most courts will give you one chance to do it if you need more time.

I would definitely tell the judge about your financial situation. They can be pretty understanding, especially if you’re showing that you’re trying to fix things. It’s worth being honest about it.
