Dmv address updated but registration notice went to old address... what now?

i updated my address with the california dmv recently, but i just got a registration notice sent to my old address. anyone know how to fix this? do i need to update it again or something?

yeah, that happens sometimes. the system might not have updated before they sent the notice. did you check your address on your dmv account?

oh, i didn’t think of that. how do i check it?

@James_Spader
log in to your mydmv account on the california dmv site. if your new address isn’t there, you might need to resubmit the change.

@James_Spader
yep, and if it’s not updated, you can resubmit online. it usually takes about 3 days to process.

btw, did you set up mail forwarding with the post office? that can help catch stuff like this.

oh, good idea. i haven’t done that yet. is it hard to set up?

nah, super easy. just go to the usps site or visit a post office. they’ll forward your mail from your old address to the new one.

fyi, it’s not instant. might take a few days to kick in.

if you mailed in your change of address form instead of doing it online, that could also delay things. mailing takes longer to process.

ah, i did it online. so hopefully it’s just a timing issue.

if this keeps happening, call the dmv directly. sometimes you just have to talk to someone to get it fixed.

yeah, it’s on their site. just google ‘california dmv contact number’ and it should pop up.

it’s also on any of your old dmv notices if you still have one.

also, if you need a real id or something, you’ll have to go in person. you can’t do that part online.

oh, i didn’t know that. i don’t think i need a real id though.

yeah, real id has its own process. but if it’s just your registration, you should be fine online.
