Do accidents in Texas show up as at-fault on your record?

Hey, so I’ve got a question about accidents in Texas. If you get in an accident that’s your fault (no other drivers involved), but you get the ticket dismissed, does it still show up on your record as at-fault or just as an accident? Trying to figure out how this might affect stuff like background checks for jobs like DoorDash or Lyft.

Pretty sure it would show up as at-fault even if the ticket is dismissed. That’s what I’ve heard, at least.

Yeah, I think so too. Fault doesn’t depend on the ticket being dismissed. It’s more about the insurance or police report.

Wait, so even if no ticket, it still counts as at-fault? That’s kinda messed up.

I read somewhere that it might only show as an accident and not specify fault. Anyone know if that’s true?

Nope, as long as fault is determined, it will show up as at-fault. That’s how it usually works.

Yeah, depends on how it’s reported. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for it to even show up on your record though.

If a background check didn’t catch it after a week, maybe it’s not on your record yet? Could take longer to process.

Exactly. I think it takes about 3 weeks after the accident to show up, maybe longer depending on the system.

Oh, so if it’s been a week and nothing shows, should I just keep waiting?

Yeah, give it another couple weeks. If you’re worried, you could try applying somewhere like Lyft to test it.

If it does show up, wouldn’t that hurt your chances with DoorDash or similar jobs? They might deactivate you.

Yeah, that’s the risk. They usually run checks every 6 months, so it could show up later even if it’s clear now.

So basically, if they miss it now, it might show up next time they check?

Exactly. It’s why some people think about switching jobs if they’re worried about deactivation later.

Honestly, this is why people talk about trading time for assets instead of money. Jobs can be unpredictable like this.

What do you mean by trading time for assets?

Like writing a book or creating something that makes money over time, instead of working hourly and risking layoffs.

Yeah, exactly. It’s more stable in the long run. Jobs can fire you, but assets like investments keep paying.
