Does a soldier’s family have to pay for security assistance to go on leave?

Hey, has anyone else dealt with a situation where a soldier’s family was asked to pay for security assistance for them to go on leave? A soldier I know is getting a vacation request processed, but they’re saying there’s a fee to process it. The vacation itself is going to be charged to the soldier, but IDK if the family is supposed to cover any of these costs. I’m kinda confused. Anyone know how this works? :thinking:

That sounds weird! Military members don’t pay for vacation leave like that. I think it’s some kind of scam, honestly.

Yeah, I agree. They definitely don’t need to pay for leave. That’s a common scam tactic too. Definitely stay cautious.

@Sage
For sure! It’s all over the place—people pretending to be military and asking for money for leave processing. If they were really military, they wouldn’t ask for money like that.

Wow, that’s crazy. Did they mention anything about being reimbursed? That also sounds like part of the scam.

Yeah, they said it would be reimbursed, but IDK if that makes it any better :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

@Ezra
Reimbursement doesn’t make sense in this context. I’d definitely say it’s a scam. No one in the military would ask for money like that for leave.

I’ve heard of similar stories where people are tricked into thinking they need to pay for leave. It’s definitely a scam. If you’re ever in doubt, always double-check with official military channels.

That’s a pretty old scam. Military personnel never pay to go on leave, so if someone’s asking for money, they’re definitely not legit. I would suggest reporting it.

Totally agree with the others. This is a scam through and through. Military personnel don’t need to pay for leave. Good thing you asked!
