Does anyone know about Sergeant Alexander Smith in the US military?

I’ve been trying to find out if someone named Sergeant Alexander Smith is actually in the US military. He mentioned being in Section B, Decree 202, and stationed at Fort Drum. Is this legit? Also, he asked for money to travel or relocate—first $1000, now $4000. Does this sound like a scam or something legit? Any advice would help!

Yeah, that sounds like a scam to me. The military covers all travel costs for its members. They wouldn’t ask for money.

Oh wow, thanks for letting me know. I had no idea! So they cover everything, even for personal trips?

Yep, even personal trips wouldn’t require them to ask you for cash. It’s a classic scam tactic.

FYI, there’s no such thing as Section B, Decree 202 in the military. That’s more like a legal reference.

Wait, what does Section B, Decree 202 mean then?

It’s probably a made-up or misused term. Decrees are laws, not military designations. Someone trying to sound official, maybe?

If someone’s asking for money claiming to be military, 99.9% it’s a scam. Report it to the FBI at ic3.gov.

Thanks, I’ll do that. Do they actually investigate these cases?

They do, but these scammers are often overseas, so it’s hard to track. Still worth reporting though.

Did he ask for money for ‘relocation’ or to marry? That’s a super common scam line.

Yeah, it was about relocating for marriage. So this is a known scam?

100%. They prey on people’s trust. Don’t send a penny. Block and report ASAP.

If you’re still unsure, you can try contacting Fort Drum directly. Their website should have info: home.army.mil/drum/contact.

Good idea, but if it’s a scam, they probably won’t have any record of him anyway.

True, but at least it confirms he’s not there. Always better to double-check.
