Employer not supporting my disability needs... any advice?

I’ve been dealing with some issues at work related to my disability. I asked for accommodations, but my employer wasn’t very helpful and didn’t even discuss options with me in a real way. After a lot of back-and-forth, I finally got moved to a location that worked for me, but only after I suggested it myself. Has anyone else dealt with something like this?

Sounds rough! If they didn’t try to discuss accommodations, that could be a red flag. Did you go to HR about it?

Yeah, I did. They looked into it for like three days and then said there wasn’t any issue. Felt rushed, tbh.

@Reeve
Wow, three days doesn’t sound thorough. Maybe they didn’t take it seriously?

If others are getting transportation stipends and you’re not, that seems unfair. Did they give any reason why?

Nope, no reason given. I saw that others get $350 biweekly, but they told me it wasn’t their responsibility to help.

@Reeve
Yikes, definitely sounds like you’re getting the short end of the stick. Could be worth bringing up to EEOC.

So frustrating that you had to basically solve it yourself! They’re supposed to work with you on this kind of stuff.

Exactly! I kept suggesting options, but they kept pushing it back on me.

Hopefully the EEOC can help out. They’ll at least take a deeper look.

Anytime there’s discrimination involved, it’s a good idea to document everything. Did you keep records of your requests and their responses?

Yes, I documented everything, including some statements from coworkers who saw what happened.

Good for you on filing with the EEOC. They’ll have a look at the whole situation, not just the final result.

Thanks, I hope they can help. It’s been a pretty stressful time.
