Hey everyone, saw this come up in a convo and thought I’d ask here… a family is trying to offer up their camper to help someone in need (like free housing for someone displaced after the hurricane). They’re wondering what they need to think about in terms of liability and the best way to protect themselves. Anyone been through this or got tips?
If they’re giving it for free housing, Airbnb might actually help. They’ve got a thing where they help with disaster relief and might cover insurance too.

wait really? Airbnb covers insurance even if it’s just donated housing?
@Hari
yeah, if it qualifies under their hurricane relief housing thing. best to hit them up and check the details tho.
FYI, there’s also a bunch of local orgs that are coordinating help. They might help match the camper with a family in need.

yeah, here’s one: List: Ways to donate and help flood victims in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene
I think it’s super kind of them to offer their camper. Just make sure whoever uses it signs some kind of basic agreement just to be safe.

what kinda agreement are we talking about?
@Dany
like something simple saying they’re staying at their own risk. not a lease, just a short doc to cover basic stuff.
Tbh I wouldn’t even have thought about liability if I was donating a camper. Good thing they’re thinking ahead.

same here lol. but with how things go these days, better safe than sorry
Real talk—if they’re not using Airbnb or an org, they should at least call a local lawyer just to make sure everything’s cool.

fr. sometimes a quick call can save you from major drama later.
