So my landlord literally lives right above me and ever since I moved in, he’s been sending me these super aggressive texts accusing me of making noise, when I’m not even doing anything . He’s also knocked on my door a bunch of times to complain in person, sometimes late at night. I’m a woman living alone and it honestly feels scary and like straight-up harassment. I still have 6 months left on my lease… is there a way to break it??
Wow that sounds awful. If he’s not sending you formal complaints and it’s all just texts, that sounds pretty shady tbh.

Right? And if it’s not even about actual noise, it just feels like he’s using that as an excuse to harass.
@Milo
Exactly. OP should probably start keeping records of everything, like screenshots of the texts and maybe note the times he shows up.
This is def giving harassment vibes. You can break a lease if you can prove he’s violating your rights, I think.

Yeah that’s what I was wondering… like if this counts as enough to take to court or something?
@Fionn
Yep, you’d have to file a small claim and show the judge he’s broken the lease terms. Then they could let you out of it legally.
Has he ever sent you anything official? Like a notice or warning letter?

Nope, just random text messages. Nothing formal at all.

Okay then yeah, sounds like he’s just being a jerk. Formal stuff matters way more legally.
IDK how you haven’t flipped on him already sounds super stressful. Can you ask him if he’d let you out of the lease early?

Honestly I haven’t tried yet… might be worth asking. I just don’t trust him at this point.
@Fionn
Fair enough. But sometimes just asking is the easiest way out. If he says no, then you go the legal route.
FYI, when ppl say ‘file a small claim’ they mean going to court to show he’s violated the lease right?

Yeah exactly. You bring the texts and explain everything. If the judge agrees, you can get the lease legally ended.
@Yan
Got it, thx! Didn’t wanna assume lol.
