So, I financed a car in my name and my friend was supposed to make the payments. She’s now 2 months behind and refuses to give the car back. We had a verbal agreement, but now she’s denying it and saying I’m making things up. If I report the car as stolen, would I get into trouble? Any advice would be great!
I’ve been in a similar situation before. You might want to consider suing her for breaching your agreement. It’s a whole process, but it’s an option. Have you tried asking her again to return the car?

Yeah, suing sounds like a hassle… but I guess it might be the only way to get it back. Do you have any evidence of the agreement?
@Landry
Unfortunately, it sounds like it’s just a verbal deal, so not much to go on. But if you have any messages or proof, that might help.
I think reporting it stolen could get tricky, especially since she still has your permission to keep it. I’d avoid doing that. You might want to look into getting a tow truck if you can.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. But it’s my car and registered in my name… so I should be able to send a tow truck, right?
@Kip
Yep, you totally can. If the car’s registered in your name, you have the right to take it back. Just make sure you don’t cause any trouble when picking it up!
I had a friend do this to me too. It really sucks. If you’re sure the car is in your name and there’s no other legal hold-up, you could go ahead and take it back. Just be prepared for the drama.

Ugh, right? It’s super frustrating. I just want my car back. I’ll look into my options. Thanks for the advice!
It’s tough when you don’t have anything written down. I’d recommend talking to a lawyer about taking action. But yeah, as others said, towing is your best bet at this point.
Sorry you’re going through this. Hopefully, it works out soon. Have you thought about just taking back the car and calling it a day? It’s really your car, after all.
