Got a reckless driving ticket in WV... any advice?

So I got a reckless driving ticket while driving through Wheeling, WV. I was going 90mph in a 55mph zone. I had been in a 70mph zone in Ohio and then the road went downhill, so I guess the speed just picked up. I have a court date for Nov 20, but I’ll be in Indiana for work. I’m a nurse and I can’t afford a misdemeanor charge. I’ve always tried to follow the law, but IDK what to do now. Anyone been through something similar?

Oof, that’s tough. I got a speeding ticket once in a similar situation where the road was downhill and I didn’t realize how fast I was going. I would suggest definitely explaining that to the court. Maybe they’ll be more lenient since you weren’t intentionally speeding.

Have you thought about taking a defensive driving course? I’ve heard that some courts will let you reduce the charge if you show you’re trying to improve your driving habits.

I’m not sure if this applies, but it’s worth asking the court if you can do a virtual appearance since you’re out of state. It’s not super common for traffic cases, but some places are still doing it after the pandemic.

Definitely get an attorney to help you out. They could help you get the charge reduced, especially since you’re from out of state. It might save you from having a criminal record.

Just stay calm and explain everything to the court. I’ve been in a similar situation where I was speeding without realizing, and they seemed more understanding once I explained the circumstances. Good luck!
