Got a speeding ticket in Bryant, AR... what now?

I got a speeding ticket on 10/9 going 77 in a 60, and I wasn’t going that fast. I’m from Nebraska and I have to handle this by my court date on 11/13 at 9:00 AM in Saline County, Bryant AR. I was pulled over by Officer T. Stevenson from the State Police. Is there anything I can do to get this reduced or dismissed? I was just driving to play golf in Hot Springs Village, and I honestly wasn’t speeding that much… Any advice on what I should do next?

Sounds like a tough spot. Are you planning to go to court or just pay the fine?

You should definitely show up in court and try to explain. They might reduce the fine if you’re lucky.

I had a similar situation once. Just showed up and explained, and the fine was cut in half. Hope it works out for you!

I really hope it works out like that. It’s stressing me out because I have no idea what the fine will be yet.

I’ve heard it’s not worth hiring a lawyer for these small things. Just go to court and explain. You’ll probably get a better deal that way.

Yeah, paying the fine seems cheaper than hiring a lawyer anyway. But sometimes having one helps, especially if the fine’s huge.

I think if you plead guilty with an explanation, they may reduce the fine. It’s worth a shot, especially since you’re not from there.

I was thinking the same. Do I need to write an explanation or just show up and talk?

You should probably write it down. It makes your case stronger if it’s clear and to the point. They might be more lenient.

Also, make sure you check if there are court costs when you mail in your plea. I heard it can add up if you don’t go in person.

Good point! I didn’t even think about that. I’ll double-check to see if that applies in my case.
