So I was in Utah last week and got pulled over for speeding. The speed limit was 65, but I was going 72. Then the speed limit dropped to 55, and I was trying to slow down, but my speed was still at 70 because of the slope. The officer turned on the lights and pulled me over. Anyone been in a similar situation? What are my options?
Ugh, that sucks! I had something similar happen to me in Colorado. The change in speed limits can be tricky. I think it depends on how much you were over the limit and if they think you were trying to slow down. You should definitely talk to a traffic lawyer.
@Micah
Yeah, I didn’t realize the limit had dropped so quickly. Wasn’t speeding on purpose, just trying to adjust. I’ll see about contacting a lawyer, thanks!
I’ve been pulled over for a similar situation in Utah before. It can be tricky because of the sudden speed limit drops. If you were in the middle of slowing down, you might be able to argue that you weren’t speeding intentionally. A lawyer should be able to help you with that.
@Perry
That’s what I was thinking. I wasn’t trying to speed, just couldn’t slow down fast enough. I’ll talk to a lawyer to see what can be done.
Oh man, I’ve been there. The drop in speed limit can be hard to notice sometimes. Hopefully, you can get it reduced or dismissed. If the officer didn’t give you a huge fine, it might be easier to work something out.
@Zander
Yeah, the fine wasn’t too bad, but I’m just worried about points on my license. Hopefully, the lawyer can work something out. Thanks for the advice!
If you’re in Utah, there’s a good chance you can get the ticket reduced if you take a defensive driving course or negotiate it down. A lawyer could definitely help with that. You might be able to get it off your record.
@Rowan
I didn’t even think of that. A defensive driving course sounds like a good option to avoid points. I’ll bring that up with the lawyer.
Definitely get in touch with a lawyer, especially since it was a sudden speed change. They might be able to help reduce the fine or even have it dismissed if there are circumstances like that.

Thanks! I’ll make sure to mention everything to the lawyer. Hopefully, they can help me out. Appreciate it!
