So yeah, I got evicted a bit ago… they said I had 30 days to get my stuff. I hit up the landlord like 4 days after and told him I’d reach out once I had a U-Haul so we could do it all at once. Since then, he’s been ghosting me, won’t answer my calls or messages. I even tried messaging his daughter and girlfriend, still nothing. I just want my things back… IDK what to do anymore. Anyone dealt with this?
Dang, that’s rough. Did you try sending him something in writing? Like a formal letter or even an email?

Nah not yet… I only tried texting and calling so far. You think a letter would actually help?
@Jin
Yeah fr, if you send it certified mail, he can’t pretend he didn’t get it. Just lay it all out—what you agreed on, that you want to pick up your stuff, etc.
What about going to the cops? I heard sometimes they can help with stuff like this.

Yep, ask for a civil standby. You can call your local police and see if they’ll come with you when you go get your things.

I didn’t know that was a thing… sounds kinda helpful tho. Gonna look into it.
What’s this small claims court thing I keep hearing about? Can you actually get your stuff back that way?

Not your stuff exactly, but you can sue for what it’s worth if the landlord keeps ignoring you or trashes your stuff. Gotta have proof tho.

Ahh got it. So like receipts or screenshots of me trying to contact him and stuff?
If you’re really stuck, you can get a lawyer to send a demand letter. Not cheap, but might get him to finally reply lol.

Kinda sounds serious but yeah, might be worth it if I can’t get anywhere soon.
FYI, even if it was just a verbal agreement, you still have rights to get your stuff back within that 30-day period. Most places recognize that.

Yeah that’s what I was banking on. The constables even told me to contact him directly too.

Wait what’s a constable again?
@Case
Kinda like law enforcement—they usually handle evictions and stuff. If they told you to reach out to the landlord, that adds weight to your case.
