Got shocked in a Navy classroom... what now?

I was in a naval postgraduate classroom and got an electric shock while plugging in my laptop charger. It shocked my left arm all the way to my tongue. I went to the ER, and the EKG said my heart’s fine, but now my arm is super sore. Has anyone dealt with something like this? Any advice?

That sounds awful! Did you report it to anyone on base? They usually have safety protocols for stuff like this.

Yeah, I told my superiors, and they just asked if I was okay. Not much else happened.

Classic, lol. You might want to talk to the Installation Safety Specialist. They’re supposed to handle stuff like this.

Was the outlet super old or damaged? That could be the issue.

It’s an old campus, so probably. I didn’t get a chance to check the outlet after it happened though.

Makes sense. They should really inspect all the outlets. You can push for a safety investigation—it’s their job to fix this stuff.

If it was that bad, you might want to talk to JAG or the claims office. They could help with filing a report.

Good call. Someone mentioned federal tort claims. Not sure how that works though.

Basically, you’d need to show financial loss to claim anything. But it’s still worth filing a report with JAG for safety reasons.

What’s a JAG? I hear it mentioned a lot.

It’s the Judge Advocate General—basically, legal services for military personnel.

Got it, thanks! Sounds like they’re the go-to for stuff like this.

If your arm’s still sore, maybe go back to medical. They can document it better, which could help your case.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Might as well cover all my bases.

For sure. Better safe than sorry, especially with injuries.
