I made a mistake, though, and neglected to mark the day on my calendar so I could pay my ticket in advance or arrange to appear in court. I had the money, so I contacted to see what I could do about missing the date. They told me I had to show myself in because the judge had given me several opportunities to appear in person, even though it had only been a week. Can I just pay what I owe, or are they going to force me to turn myself in?

I had intended to see the judge on time, but I got delayed at work. When I arrived at the courthouse a few hours later to pay the fine, they informed me that a warrant was going to be issued and that I had paid the fee just in time. I had almost received a warrant for it in a different county. Indeed, you will be forced to turn yourself in; failing to show up is a failure.

Missing traffic court once might not mean an arrest warrant yet. Call the court ASAP.
- Explain that you missed the date and want to pay.
- Ask about any warrants.
- See if you can still pay the ticket and avoid further issues.
Court rules vary, so calling them directly is your best bet.
