Help with custody papers and child support

@Ozzy
Why go through all of that without being married?

@Ozzy
I paid for everything too, except IVF. My kid’s on my insurance. Support is based on income and time with the child. My ex made slightly more and only has our child every other weekend, so he pays me. Your situation might be different, but a lawyer can guide you.

Do those costs matter? Are you planning on suing him for half?

Yes, I plan to. If he wants paternity, then he should pay me half of the IVF costs, which were very expensive.

@Ozzy
You should go after that in civil court, not family court. Don’t bring it up during custody, but maybe try later.

@Ripley
If they had an agreement and he backed out, it could matter depending on local laws, but it’s a civil issue, not for family court.

Why are you putting ideas in her head? There’s no mention of an agreement.

@Ozzy
If you’re in the USA, I doubt you’ll get IVF costs back. Why do IVF with someone you’re not married to instead of using a donor?

People want kids, can’t conceive naturally, so they try IVF. Marriage or not, it’s not that uncommon.

@Emory
Why spend all that on IVF and not a little more on a custody agreement?

Exactly! You should have sorted out custody first.

@Jin
This! She really needs to face reality.

Wow, not what I expected. I hope you’ve got a written agreement for those costs. Remember, you’re going to co-parent with him for a long time, and the kids will notice everything.

The DNA is confirmed since it was through IVF.

@Ozzy
There’s always a small chance of a mix-up during IVF.

He’s probably asking for 50/50 but shooting higher to negotiate. Most dads just want equal time with the kids. Don’t stress too much about it.

That’s some ‘mistake’… But yes, if he gets physical custody, child support rules will apply.

@Leighton
That wasn’t there when I first replied. Given that info, he’s doing the right thing.

What do you mean by mistake?

@Ripley
Why dig into it? It’s already done, and it’s the proper legal step. Deal with it by getting a lawyer.

Mostly because it’s not clear if they’re still together or if this is truly a custody issue.
