I need to get a copy of a 911 call. Not sure how to go about it. Anyone know what steps I should take or if there are forms I need to fill out?
You can get a copy by making a public records request to the police department. Just include the date, time, and location of the call in the request.

Thanks, ABC! Do I just go to the department in person or can I do it online?

You can often do it online, but it depends on the police department. I’d check their website first.
FYI, 911 calls are part of public records, so you definitely have the right to request them. Just be specific with the details when you file.

Good to know! I’ll make sure to include as much info as possible.
I did this once. Make sure you specify the exact date and time of the call, or else they might not be able to find it.

Yeah, it’s better to be super clear. I messed up a request once because I didn’t include enough details.

Noted! Thanks for the tip, JKL and MNO!
Just curious, are there fees involved in getting a 911 call copy?

Sometimes there’s a small fee, like for copying. But it depends on the local rules.

Alright, I’ll check on that too. Thanks for mentioning it!
If you’re not sure what to do, you can always ask the records room at the police station for guidance. They should be able to help.

Thanks, STU! Sounds like going in person could be a good option.
