I’m trying to find geolocation records for a defendant’s vehicle in my case. I’m proceeding Pro Se, and I know the department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (15A-6.012 section 1(c)) says discovery subpoenas won’t be issued. So, what can I do? I need to prove the defendant wasn’t with me during the incident and was actually at the locations in the lawsuit. Any advice on how to go about getting these records?
Have you considered getting the geolocation records from a GPS service or a tracking app? Some vehicles have tracking systems like OnStar, and you might be able to request the records directly from the provider. Just a thought!
Cell phone records could also help you. If the defendant had their phone with them in the car, you might be able to get geolocation data from cell towers. I know it’s not super accurate, but it could still help you build a timeline.

If the person’s involved in any other legal cases, you might be able to find more detailed vehicle info like the VIN. Also, if there’s a human trafficking investigator involved, they might be able to help with geolocation info.
