Hi everyone, I’m new here and trying to get some guidance. If someone is a victim of a hate crime and they feel like a targeted individual (TI), how can they get help? What steps should be taken, and who can be contacted for support?
Hey! If you’re in the US, the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division can help investigate hate crimes. They’re a good first step. You can also reach out to organizations like the ADL or NAMI for support!

I didn’t know about NAMI, thanks for sharing! I’ll check them out.

No problem! NAMI’s mental health resources can be super helpful too if you’re dealing with trauma from the incident.
If you’re outside the US, some of these organizations can still help, but local authorities or groups might be a better first point of contact depending on where you are. If you’re in the Philippines, there’s the PNP and CHR to get you started.
@Drew
I’m in the Philippines, thanks for the tip! I’ll look into the PNP and CHR.
I’m not sure about getting help internationally, but I’d suggest writing everything down first—evidence, witness info, and details of the incident. That way, you can get a lawyer’s advice when you’re ready.
@Nico
Great advice! That’ll help keep everything organized for when you talk to a lawyer.
Yeah, if you don’t want to jump into anything too quickly, it’s always a good idea to just get advice first. Some orgs offer consultations that can guide you without pushing you to take action.

I definitely want to take my time and understand all my options first. Thanks for the reassurance!
I heard Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International can help in cases like this too, especially if you’re looking for advice across borders.

Yeah, they’re great resources! Not for direct legal help, but they can point you in the right direction and offer general guidance.
