I’m stuck dealing with a Sharp case where I wasn’t allowed to have any witnesses. Meanwhile, the person who reported me could testify. They’ve kept me on Ft. Sill in Oklahoma for 14 weeks, and I just want to go home already. Anyone been through this? What can I do?
Man, that sounds rough. From what I know, the military justice system should let you call witnesses. Did they give you a reason for denying yours?

Nope, just said they were inadmissible. IDK if it’s a procedural thing or what.

They probably used some rule about evidentiary standards. Might be worth asking a lawyer to dig into it.
Did you get any kind of review for being held so long? I thought pre-trial confinement had strict time limits?

Not that I know of. It feels like they’re just dragging it out. Is there a way to push for a review?

Yeah, you can request a review of your confinement. They have to justify holding you this long under the UCMJ.
Have you talked to a JAG officer? They’re supposed to help with stuff like this.

I’ve got one, but it feels like they’re not doing much. Do I just keep pushing them?

Definitely. Sometimes you have to remind them it’s your life on hold. Keep pressing for answers!
When they denied your witnesses, did they say anything about procedural rules? Could be worth finding out why.

No, they just said they weren’t allowed. It’s super frustrating.

That’s weird. Witnesses are usually a basic right. Might be time to get a civilian lawyer involved.
FYI, if this is dragging on, you can look into appeals for how the case is being handled. There’s a process for that.

Appeals? Like what kind? I’ve just been stuck here waiting.

You can appeal decisions like denying witnesses or confinement extensions. Look into military legal channels for this.
