How do I get a replacement driver's license in Michigan?

Hey, I lost my driver’s license, and I’m not sure what to do next. I’m in Michigan. Do I have to report it somewhere first, or can I just go get a replacement? I haven’t checked the DMV website yet. Any advice?

You can totally get a replacement online or in person. Have you tried the Michigan Self-Service Station? Super easy if it’s nearby.

Oh, what’s a Self-Service Station? Is it like an ATM for licenses?

@Jaime
Yeah, exactly! It’s like a kiosk where you can renew stuff or get replacements. Super handy. Here’s the link to find one: https://miselfservicestation.com/

@Jaime
I used one of those last year. Took me like 5 minutes to get my new license. Highly recommend!

You can also do it online if you don’t want to go in person. The state has a login portal for stuff like that.

Yep, here it is: https://milogin.michigan.gov. Just sign in, and you should see the option for a replacement license.

If you don’t like online stuff or kiosks, you can always schedule an in-person appointment with the SOS office.

SOS? What’s that?

Secretary of State. It’s what Michigan calls their DMV offices. You can book an appointment here: https://dsvsesvc.sos.state.mi.us/TAP/

You should probably report it as lost or stolen first. If someone finds it, they could try to use it. Better safe than sorry.

Good point. Do I need to go to the police for that, or just notify the SOS office?

@Jaime
Usually, just the SOS office is fine unless you think someone stole it. Then maybe report it to the police too.

Btw, when you get your new license, it’ll have the same info as your old one. Just in case you were wondering.

Oh cool, thanks for letting me know! I was worried they might change something.
