How do I get a replacement Social Security card?

Hey, so I lost my Social Security card, and I just need a replacement. I haven’t contacted the SSA yet. Anyone know how to go about this? I’m in Washington, zip code 98223, if that helps. Any tips or advice would be awesome!

You can apply online if you have a My Social Security account. Super easy, just need to upload some ID docs.

Thanks! What kind of docs do I need? Like a driver’s license?

Yep, driver’s license works! Passport or state ID is good too. Just make sure it’s up to date.

If online isn’t your thing, just go to the nearest SSA office. They’ll sort you out.

Yeah, I was thinking of going to the Arlington office. Is it faster in person?

Depends. If it’s not super busy, it might be quicker. Take all your docs though!

FYI, don’t mail your original documents if you apply by mail. SSA only accepts copies certified by the issuing agency.

Good to know! I’d rather just take them in person anyway.

Do you already have a My Social Security account? It’s worth making one if you don’t.

Not yet. Is it hard to set up?

Nah, super easy. Just go to the SSA website, follow the steps, and you’re good to go.
