I’ve been worried about a situation and was wondering how to anonymously report child abuse and neglect. I’m in Maine, but the family I’m concerned about is on a military base in Hawaii. Any advice on how to handle this?
You can report it anonymously. Just create a Gmail account and send in the report. Be specific about what you’ve seen or know.

Do you know who to report it to? Like, where would you send the email?

You’d report to Child Protective Services (CPS) or the military’s Family Advocacy Program (FAP). Look up their contact info for Hawaii.
You could also hire a lawyer to report it for you. That way, it’s handled professionally and stays anonymous.

That’s smart. Do you know where to find a lawyer for something like this?

Check Justia.com or Martindale.com. Both let you search for lawyers by location and area of expertise.
If you’re really concerned, maybe reach out to the American Bar Association or State Bar Association for free or low-cost legal help.

What’s the American Bar Association? Is it like a directory for lawyers?

Yeah, exactly! It’s a resource to find legal help. They might also connect you to organizations that can guide you.
You can also directly call CPS in Hawaii or even the military base. They should have a hotline for these situations.

Thanks! I didn’t think of calling the base. Do you know if they’d trace the call back to me?

Most hotlines keep reports anonymous unless there’s a legal reason to disclose. Just ask when you call to be sure.
I’ve heard you can make anonymous reports through state websites too. Might be worth checking Maine and Hawaii’s sites for links.

Oh, good idea! Do you know if those reports go straight to CPS or somewhere else?

Usually to CPS, but some states have specific departments for military families. Just double-check when submitting.
