If I take a speeding ticket to trial in Kansas and lose, do I have to pay right away?

Hey, I got a speeding ticket in Manhattan, KS for going 25 over, and I’m thinking of taking it to trial, but from what I’ve heard, it’s not very likely to be successful. I drive for Lyft, and I’m worried that if the ticket goes through, I might get kicked off the platform. The fine isn’t too bad, but I’m also wondering about the cost of taking it to trial. So my main question is, if I lose the case, do I have to pay the fine on the spot, or is there a grace period to pay it off? Trying to figure out my timeline to plan ahead for a new job if things go south. Anyone know how this works in Kansas?

Hey, I had a similar situation in Kansas a while ago. You usually get some time to pay the fine if you lose. I think it’s around a week or so depending on the court.

Good to know! I thought they might make you pay right away. I guess I should check with the court just to be sure.

Yeah, you should be fine with a grace period. I’ve seen it happen before. If the fine is low, they might even offer a payment plan if you need more time.

Oh wow, that’s good to hear. I was stressed about paying everything all at once, especially since I’m in a tight spot right now.

I took a ticket to trial once in Kansas. The judge didn’t make me pay that day. I had about 2 weeks to sort it out.

That sounds pretty standard. Guess I’ll just have to hope the trial doesn’t end up costing me more than the fine itself!

I don’t know if it varies by court, but I think in most cases, they give you at least a week. Definitely check with your specific court, just in case.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to double check with them. Thanks for the heads up!

Just so you know, if you’re a Lyft driver, they might still let you stay on the platform if the fine is paid off in time. But I’d still make a backup plan just in case.

Thanks, that makes sense. I’m just trying to make sure I don’t get caught off guard. Appreciate the tip!
